Coaching an artist is a special flow together with insights and beliefs.
” Art provides the answers to questions no one has asked.” –
Michail Piotrovski, the Director of the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg.
For a few months, I’ve been working with
a fantastic client who was spreading her wings as an artist.
From my experience, creative people are vulnerable about their work, quite perfectionists and often in doubt. And I intended to keep it in mind while coaching an artist.
My client – let’s call her Ann, coaching is confidential, so it is not her real name.
Ann is a fascinating person with a great sense of humour, knowledgable, a strong personality and a desire to succeed in her chosen creative niche. Being confident in other areas of life and having a day job Ann was determined to continue with her artistic projects.
coaching an artist
There were massive challenges for Ann to keep the mindset in creative mode with demands in other areas of life, finding time to explore and implement new ideas.
We assessed her current artistic work objectively, to the best of our abilities. She had a group of fans who appreciated her work and loved Ann as the artist. The reason I mention this, for the coaching process to be successful it is crucial to find and establish a solid base to move from.
when you feel in turmoil…
When you feel in turmoil, when the world is collapsing, there is that anchor or oasis where you can recharge your batteries or the solid base like in the case with Ann.
I point out another two areas we covered, which Ann implemented famously.
ignite the passion
First, keeping her passion going, finding what can ignite it despite the everyday chores. I was delighted to receive feedback from her with winning memos. “Marina, it worked!”
clear the space for creativity
Second, clearing the space of secondary stress. I believe, creative people are sensitive, intuitive and feel the flow of personal energy sharply. It is great when you are surrounded by like-minded or supportive people, and much less exciting to be among people who are constantly negative. We are not even aware of how much it affects us. The wrong kind of communication can drain us mentally and even squash our ability to imaginative work.
It was fascinating to observe how Ann threw an unwanted load from her creative flow, freeing her resourcefulness to another level.
volcano for ideas
With a volcano of her innovative ideas, and indestructible belief in herself Ann is bringing into the world something truly unique.
I am so proud and honoured to work with such a powerful, magnificent, humble and gifted person!
