Business Ideas Club lessons and discoveries.

Every Business Ideas Club session is different – the variety of topics, challenges, and speakers. During the three years, I run the Business Ideas Club we had speakers from the USA – Doresa Ibrahim, from France – Nathalie Doremieux, and from the UK – Teresa CarnallSarah White, Michael David Roberts (Dee) to name a few. The club participants make each session alive with their expertise, talents, and desire to help and support each other.

Occasionally it is exciting to bring a guest from another time and another dimension, especially if it is a genius. Leonardo da Vinci can teach us endlessly. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were his fans. Bill Gates paid over 30 million dollars for his notebook 30 years ago and still using it. He was fascinated by Leonardo’s Renaissance way of thinking.

What could we learn from Leonardo da Vinci?

Each of us running our businesses, developing leadership, creating growth strategies is facing so many challenges. What could be useful in Leonardo’s principles? I have chosen a few and you might be surprised by them:

  1. Be curious, relentlessly curious.
  2. Seek knowledge for its own sake.
  3. Retain a childless sense of wonder.
  4. Observe.
  5. Start with details.
  6. See things unseen.
  7. Go down rabbit holes.
  8. Get distracted.
  9.  Respect facts.
  10.  Procrastinate.
  11. Create for yourself, not just for your patrons.
  12. Collaborate.
  13. Be open to mystery.

Yesterday while reflecting on the theme, on the last principle from the list – Be open to mystery – we had two people joining us from Islamabad, Pakistan.
We continued discussing business challenges for a new participant, using our own expertise and remembering Leonardo’s lessons.
At the conclusion of the session – a new participant found an answer to her main question about how to develop her business and to expand to new markets. We made sure she had an action plan with the dates.

Leonardo’s principle – Be open to mystery – is working indeed.
